About Us

The Licensing Foundation, Inc. was formed in November 2000 by the trustees of the Licensing Executives Society of U.S.A. and Canada (LES) to continue and expand the activities of the former Endowment Committee. The Foundation provides an opportunity for sharing the increased wealth created by the growth of licensing throughout the world. Learn more about the Licensing Foundation, Inc. at www.licensingfoundation.org.

The Foundation was established by the LES to promote public awareness and provide educational resources on the value and importance of licensing all forms of intellectual property. The Foundation's primary current activities include:

* Annual Survey of Licensing in the U.S. and Canada
* Licensing Foundation Annual Lecture
* Annual Colloquium and Dinner
* Edwin A. Shalloway Graduate Student Licensing Competition
* The Frank Barnes Licensing Mentor Award
* Licensing Resources & Foundation Bibliography

The Foundation is developing a long-range plan of communicating the importance of recognizing the intellectual property rights of owners and the important role that licensing plays in bringing creativity and innovation to commercial realization.

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors, all of whom presently are members of LES USA & Canada. To date, the Foundation has been funded primarily by contributions from LES USA & Canada, with important additional contributions from individuals. It's long-term goal is to obtain additional funds from individuals and organizations that have benefited from the licensing profession. As an approved charitable foundation, any grants or donations to the Foundation should qualify as a deductible contribution in both the U.S. and Canada. (You should consult your tax advisor to determine your exact tax benefits.) The Foundation would welcome any present or future contributions.

The Respect Rights Foundation is a 501(c)3 foundation formed in 2005 in order to educate people about innovation, licensing, and their commercial and social values. More information can be found by clicking here.
